I started my piano tuning business 1996 after qualifying at the London Guildhall University, where I trained for three years. I generally cover an area within thirty miles of my home in Caversham including the M4 corridor and I frequently travel to London to perform concert tunings. My piano tuning business is founded on old-fashioned values of quality service and attention to detail.

Pianos generally need tuning between once and twice a year. I am often amazed by the age of some of the pianos I tune. Many of them are over eighty years in age! However, as they have been regularly maintained, they have continued to provide pleasure for many generations.

On average, I aim to tune around five to six pianos a day. The majority of my business comes from domestic tunings, although I also tune for schools, colleges and concert venues. Occasionally, I have had the pleasure of tuning for famous names in the music world.

I come across pianos in all sorts of places. A recent survey shows that one in ten houses has a piano but I have been called out to locations as varied as palaces, recording studios, barges, marquees and both stately and mobile homes. Sometimes it is the positioning of the piano that is remarkable - one particular job left me trying to imagine how it is exactly that one gets a nine foot grand piano into fifth floor penthouse flat.
